Lipon Mondal is an Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Dhaka. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology (2020) from Virginia Tech (USA), where he was among the top 10% of all doctoral students and became a life member of two most distinguished Honor Societies: Phi Kappa Phi and Golden Key International. He received a Master's degree in Sociology from the University of Dhaka, earning first place in the first class and the prestigious Nazmul Karim Memorial Gold Medal. He also earned a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of Dhaka, securing the first position in the first class and receiving the Dean's Award.

Dr. Mondal's research focuses on global political economy, world-systems analysis, urban sociology, labor control/rights, and sociological theory. He has published more than ten peer-reviewed journal articles in his area of expertise. Notably, two of his recent articles have appeared in two top-notch journals: Urban Studies (SAGE) and Journal of World-Systems Research (American Sociological Association). These articles advance two new theories in the field of global political economy and urban sociology. Two of his journal articles (forthcoming) will appear in the International Journal of Comparative Sociology (SAGE) and the Journal of Sociology (University of Dhaka). These articles also move global sociological debates forward. He has recently published an important book chapter on urban problems and policies in Bangladesh (by University Press Limited), and two book chapters are forthcoming (by Brill and Routledge).

Dr. Mondal signed a book contract (edited volume, editors: Lipon Mondal & David Brunsma) with Brill Academic Publishers, especially with David Fasenfest's Studies in Critical Social Sciences book series. This book is (tentatively) titled Urban Regimes of Dispossession in the Global South: Towards a New Debate. It is due in Spring 2025. He is also preparing his second book manuscript, From Dispossession to Surplus Production: An Urban Theory of Capitalism in the Global South, for Oxford University Press. One of his articles, which focuses on labor control in the global apparel industry, is now under review by a leading sociology journal.

Dr. Mondal's teaching interests include Sociological Theories, Marxist Thoughts, History of Global Capitalism, Urban Sociology, Social Stratification, Global Studies, Global Apparel Industry, Research Methodology, and Introductory Sociology.

Dr. Mondal serves national and international research communities by regularly reviewing articles from a dozen leading sociology and urban studies journals. He is actively engaged in various international professional organizations, including the American Sociological Association (ASA), the International Sociological Association (ISA), and the Southern Sociological Society (SSS).
