The inaugural function of ‘Master of Professional Banking (MPB)’ at the Department of Banking and Insurance of Dhaka University was held yesterday 18 October 2015 at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban auditorium. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique formally inaugurated this new MPB program as chief guest. Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Atiur Rahman was present on this occasion as Guest of Honor.

Presided over by the Chairman of the Department of Banking and Insurance and Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies Prof. Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam, the function was addressed by DU Treasurer Prof. Dr. Md. Kamal Uddin, Head of Sales Delivery of ACCA Mr. Richard Staunton, Managing Director of South East Bank Shahid Hossain and Managing Director of Meghna Bank Md. Nurul Amin as special guests. 

In the beginning of the function Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique handed over a DU crest to Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Atiur Rahman for achieving the best Central Bank Governor Award-2015 from Asia-Pacific Region.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique congratulated Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr. Atiur Rahman for his extra ordinary achievement as the best Governor in the Asia-Pacific Region. He said, Dr. Atiur Rahman is a distinguished professor and an outstanding economist with high moral integrity. We are really proud of our colleague Prof. Atiur Rahman and we wish him all the best always, the VC said.

In the function 11 meritorious students of different batches were given ‘R. I. Khan Trust Fund’ scholarship. Besides, a cheque for Taka 15 lakh was handed over to DU Treasurer Prof. Dr. Kamal Uddin to establish a new trust fund titled “Dilip Das Gupta and Pratima Das Gupta Trust Fund” at Dhaka University.
