Satadru Sovan Banduri, born in 1973, is a painter and video artist from New Delhi, whose work focuses on the restricted sexuality and latent fantasizing that he feels is endemic to his native India. His works also highlight how “Consumerism consumes people’s individuality and turns them into larger-than-life entities…”

The artist started working with digital media a few years ago, while it was still a new and unexplored genre in India. A Fulbright Research Scholar who is affiliated with the Digital Arts and New Media Master’s degree program at the University of California Santa Cruz, Banduri is interested in bringing digital art and new media back to India. He is immensely fascinated by information technology and the digital revolution. 

A student of Kala Bhavan, Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan, Banduri began his career while still enrolled at the institution. Working as an independent artist since then, he has participated in several regional, national, and international art shows. His works have been part of international exhibitions held at Lincoln Centre in New York; The Museum of Art and History in Santa Cruz; Schema Art Museum, in Korea; and Cheongju Contemporary Art Museum, in Malaysia. He has participated in exhibitions in Korea, Hong Kong, South Africa, Vietnam, Iran and Germany. Satadru has participated in Biennales of Iran, The Cheongju International Craft Biennale, the Bodhgaya Biennale, That Art Fair (Cape Town), the Cheongju International Art Fair South Korea, the Johannesburg Art Fair in South Africa, United Art Fair Delhi, the Art Expo in Malaysia, and the Indian Art Summit, New Delhi. Performances and workshops include in USA, China, Vietnam, South Korea, South Africa, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, India, and Bangladesh.
