A new trust fund titled ‘Md. Munirul Islam and Shamsunnahar Begum Trust Fund’ has been established at Dhaka University (DU). Chairperson of the Department of Women and Gender Studies of DU Dr. Umme Busra Fateha Sultana handed over a cheque for Tk. 10 lac to the Treasurer of DU Prof. Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed today March 20, 2024 at the VC’s Lounge of the university to set up this trust fund in name of her parents.

Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences of DU Prof. Dr. Zia Rahman, Registrar Probir Kumar Sarker and other siblings of donor were present on this occasion.      Out of the income of this trust fund every year two financially challenged and orphan students of the first year undergraduate program of DU will be given scholarship.

It may be mentioned that late Md. Munirul Islam was a General Manager of BADC. Mrs. Shamsunnahar Begum was awarded ‘Ratnagarva Ma Award’ by Azad products in 2013.  All of descendants of ‘Md. Munirul Islam and Shamsunnahar Begum couple are highly educated and well established in the society.
