Ambassador of the State of Palestine in Bangladesh Mr. Yousef S.Y. Ramadan called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A S M Maksud Kamal today April 30, 2024 at the latter’s office of the university.
Dean of Earth and Environmental Sciences Faculty Prof. Dr. Md. Zillur Rahman, Registrar Probir Kumar Sarker, Director of International Affairs Office Prof. Dr. Shamsad Mortuza and Director of Public Relations Office Mahmood Alam were present on this occasion.
During the meeting they discussed matters of mutual interests and exchanged views regarding various issues especially admission of Palestinian students at Dhaka University. Palestine Ambassador requested DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A S M Maksud Kamal for allowing admission, granting scholarship and providing accommodation to Palestine students especially female ones. He said, Father of the Nation of Bangladesh Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman took initiative to establish friendly relationship between Bangladesh and Palestine since the Independence of Bangladesh in 1971. His daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina always voiced supports for Palestine and stood beside Palestinian people in the national and international arena, Ambassador added.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A S M Maksud Kamal assured the Ambassador of enrollment of at least 20 Palestinian meritorious students at Dhaka University every year and providing scholarship and accommodation facilities to them. He said that DU authorities would extend all sorts of support to Palestinian students during their studies at Undergraduate and Masters level at DU.
DU VC strongly condemned Israeli brutal attacks and killings of Palestinian people. These Israeli brutalities, genocide and inhuman activities in Palestine territory must be immediately stopped, he pointed out.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. A S M Maksud Kamal thanked the Palestinian Ambassador Mr. Yousef S.Y. Ramadan for his visit to and keen interest in getting admission of Palestine students at Dhaka University.
