A 4-member delegation led by Mr. Stephen F. Ibelli, Public Affairs Counselor of US Embassy in Dhaka called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan today September 25, 2024 at the latter’s office of the university. Other members of the delegation were Mr. Scott Hartmann, Ms. Raihana Sultana and Mr. Jonatha Gomes of the same embassy.
Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) of DU Prof. Dr. Mamun Ahmed, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Dr. Sayema Haque Bidisha and Treasurer Prof. Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury were present on this occasion.
During the meeting they discussed matters of mutual interest specially the possibilities of strengthening ongoing joint collaborative academic and research programs among the University of Dhaka and different universities in USA. They also discussed various bilateral issues including establishment of American Corner at DU, enhancement of Fulbright scholarship program, entrepreneurship development program, English language skills development program and leadership capacity building program to strengthen the skills of DU students for their better employment. They stressed the need for exchange of teachers and students among DU and different universities in USA as well as exchange of data and information between American Centre and Dhaka University.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan sought financial support and cooperation from US delegation to build a new residential hall for female students at DU. The delegation members assured the VC of consideration the matter positively.
