Country Director of International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) Bangladesh Dr. Tanyel Bedia Taysi, Director of the Office of Democracy, Human Rights & Governance, USAID Ms. Alena J Tansey and Deputy Director Mr. Blair King  called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan today October 10, 2024 at the latter’s office of the university. 

Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) of DU Prof. Dr. Sayema Haque Bidisha, Chairperson of the Department of Political Science Prof. Dr. Nasima Khatun, Proctor Associate Prof. Saifuddin Ahmed, Associate Professor Mohammad Aynul Islam and some other faculty members were present on this occasion.

During the meeting they discussed the possibilities of strengthening ongoing joint collaborative academic and research programs among Dhaka University and different universities in USA. They also discussed the possibilities of establishing a `Democracy Lab’ at Dhaka University to create awareness among the students on human rights and democratic values. They stressed the need for undertaking more joint collaborative academic and training programs on teaching methodology, human rights, crisis management, peace and harmony among DU, USAID and IFES to prepare the students as skilled human resources. Arranging workshop and summit with the participation of DU students and the students of different institutions of USA were also discussed in the meeting. They discussed the possibilities of formation of a task-force with the combination of DU, USAID and IFES representatives to strengthen joint collaborative programs.

DU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan sought financial support from USAID and IFES to provide scholarship for DU students and give incentive for their voluntary activities.
