Assistant Professor in the Department of English, I work at the crossroads of the medieval and early modern literatures. My research is actuated by an active interest in literatures quintessentially sans frontiers. I interrogate identity, affect, nationality, wilderness in English, French and Spanish writings from magic realist, postcolonial, translational and ecocritical points of view.
I have published articles on a tremendously flexible array of research questions without losing sight of originality. The first article I wrote was on the nexus between the newfound freedom in translation and the advent of modernism in Bengali literature, in which I identified translation to be the most important medium of importing modernist values to Bengali literature.
Then my research focus shifted a little from translation studies to R.K. Narayan on whom I did a few extensive research investigations, mostly from the perspective of harrowing police violence orchestrated on unsuspecting Indians in colonial India in the name of national security. At a later time, I diverted my attention from the postcolonial to imbibing latest ideas from a host of ecocritical, magic realist and Sufism viewpoints, and finished writing articles in comparative veins on J.M.G. Le Clézio, Maurice Druon, Federico García Lorca, Frantz Fanon, and Rumi.
I have recently published Le Rayonnement du Moyen Âge : La planète littéraire française qui peut s'apercevoir à l'œil nu, which introduces students of French studies to the treasure-trove of medieval French literature. I have hammered out its lay, composed of historico-cultural chiaroscuros, to create a perception of medieval French literature's profound depth by parsing the fine details of its literary sublimities.
I am currently writing my second book Dacca dans l'Imaginaire de Pierre Sonnerat. This book will offer insights into the way Dacca (now called Dhaka) becomes one of the most vibrant French colonial outposts in the early modern Indian subcontinent. Its rivers, burgeoning businesses, blossoming publishing industries, favorite food items, festivals, impoverishment, pastimes etc. will also find their way into the heart of discussion. I envisage to bring into play the author's unbounded enthusiasm in the makeup of the city from lacanian object-relations theory.
My working languages include English, French and Spanish.Read less
