MD ABDUS SALAM did his Bachelor of Education (Hons), Master of Education from the Institute of Education and Research (IER), University of Dhaka, Bangladesh respectively in 1997, 1998 bearing the top score. After joining in the Institute as a lecturer, he did his MA in Education degree from the North East Wales Institute of Higher Education (NEWI), University of Wales, United Kingdom in 2007 with scholarship. His dissertation in the MA Education focuses on the ‘Planning Change through Pedagogic Training Programme for New Lecturer at the University in Dhaka’. He has been awarded Ph.D degree by completing his dissertation entitled ‘Professional Development and Pedagogy of the University Teachers in Bangladesh’. He has received few international training on different issues e.g. ICT and Pedagogical Development, Stockholm University-Sweden, from 14 February to 09 March 2017, ICT in Education from Thailand, Environmental Education from Japan. He has been awarded CSC scholarship in China for pursuing Masters Degree. Later, he has started his teaching career by working in Bangladesh Rifles School and College as a senior teacher. He has joined at the IER, University of Dhaka as a lecturer in 2003 and he has worked as an assistant professor for more than 5 years and as an associate professor for more than 7 years. He is currently working as a Professor of Education (Nonformal & Lifelong Education And ICT in Education focused) at the Institute of Education and Research, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. As a teacher, he has been managing classroom teaching and learning activities of under- graduate & post-graduate students on different areas of Education with a view to preparing future leaders in teaching, research, administration, and educational management. His frequently taught courses for student-teachers at the IER are TC-110: Computer in Education, ED-503: ICT in Education, PC-111: Introduction to Education, PC-112: Education in Bangladesh, PC-125: Introduction to Educational Research, PC-123: Nonformal and Continuing Education, NFCE-640: Nonformal Education: National and International perspective, NFCE-644: ICT and Media in Nonformal Education, ED-504: Leadership in Education etc. He has been supervising Masters, M. Phil and Ph. D research students in the area of teachers’ professional development, teacher leadership and ICT integration in education. He has been developing and reviewing curriculum and materials for teacher education and human resource development in the country. He has given different consultancy services to national and international firms in education.
His research interest covers the analysis of ICT integration in Pedagogy and Education. He has successfully completed different research projects in different national and international organizations e.g. Prime Minister’s Office (a2i), Ministry of Education, National Academy for Educational Development, Brac, World Bank, JICA, Save the Children International, Plan International-Bangladesh etc. He has done ‘ICT mapping in Education sector in Bangladesh’. He is one of the members of ICT master plan committee of government. Recently, he formulated draft ‘National Open Educational Resources Policy for Bangladesh’ funded by Commonwealth of Learning (COL), Canada. He has published books and articles in the area of ICT integration in teaching, educational leadership, professional and pedagogical development of teachers in Bangladesh. He has great contribution in developing different training modules for teachers’ professional development at primary, secondary and higher education level in Bangladesh. He also conducted many teacher training programmes of British Council, Brac and Government of Bangladesh projects. He has worked as focal person for the teacher development in the ROSC (Reaching Out of School Children) projects nationwide for 5 years. He has studied and visited around 50 countries in World for self-learning including USA, UK, Europe, Africa, Sri Lanka, Japan, China, Thailand, and India. Thus, he has been experienced on different issues of international education, training, research and ICT integration in Education.
