Dr. Borhan Uddin Khan is currently a Professorin the Department of Law, University of Dhaka and was a former Dean of the Faculty of Law (2006-2010) and Chairman of the Department of Law (2015-2017). He is also an Advisor and Adjunct Professor, in the Department of Law, Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) with responsibility tolead and head the Department.Borhanholds an LL.M. in Public International Law (1990) from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), University of London and Ph.D. (1995) from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. In order to pursue higher studies and research, he has availed: Commonwealth Scholarship, British Council Fellowship, UN/UNITAR Fellowship in Public International Law, UNHCR Sponsorship, ICRC Sponsorship, ILO Sponsorship and Scholarship from The Hague Academy of International Law.
Borhanenrolled himself as a lawyer with the Bangladesh Bar Council in 1986 andtothe High Court Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh in 1988. In 1989, he joined the Department of Law, University of Dhaka as a Lecturer after completing LL.B. (Hons.) and LL.M. from the same University. He is a founder member and former Vice President of the Asian Society of International Law andalso the founder and current President of its Bangladesh Chapter.He also holds membership in the American Society of International Law (ASIL) and the International Law Association (ILA).
Borhan’sresearch interests include: International Human Rights and Humanitarian Law,International Refugee Law,International Criminal Law,International Labor Law and Minority Rights.As a Consultant of the Ministry of Law Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, he codified the laws of Bangladesh (1939-2005), published in 2007 as The Bangladesh Code (36 Volumes).He has co-authored book on,Protection of Minorities: Regimes, Norms and Issues in South Asia, (Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2012) and co-edited Revisiting the Geneva Conventions:1949-2019, (Brill/Nijhoff, 2020).His co-edited book on Human Rights and International Criminal Law is forthcoming in 2021.
