The Freshers’ Reception and Farewell program was held at the TSC Auditorium on the 7th of February 2024, to welcome the 29th batch officially and bid a hearty farewell to the 25th batch of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, University of Dhaka. The honorable Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Professor Dr. Hafiz Md. Hasan Babu adorned the event as the chief guest. The special guest was a star alumni of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering Dr. Md. Mofijul Islam, Applied Scientist II, at the AWS Generative AI Innovation Center of Amazon in Seattle, Washington, USA. The event was chaired by the Chairman of the department – Professor Dr. Saifuddin Md. Tareeq. The whole event was organized by the students of the 28th batch.

The program commenced with the arrival of the esteemed guests at 10 am. Soon after, selected students were asked to recite verses from their Holy Books. Following this, the department’s student advisor, Dr. Ismat Rahman, took the stage, delivering the opening speech and setting the tone for the day’s proceedings. After that, the  freshers were welcomed  with flowers  and souvenirs. Simultaneously, a heartfelt farewell was bid to the graduating seniors. Then, representatives from the freshers and fresh graduates shared their thoughts. These speeches encapsulated the essence of the event, bridging the gap between the juniors and seniors. Afterward, speeches from the chief and special guests followed, inspiring and motivating the audience with their words of wisdom. Then, the chairperson delivered the closing speech, concluding the formal part of the event.

Soon after, a prize-giving ceremony followed, awarding the winners of the Freshers’ Week 2023 and DU CTF 2023. After a break for lunch and prayer, the cultural ceremony began at 01:30 pm. The students from various batches entertained the audience with songs, recitations, dance performances, and drama. The whole day’s proceedings ended with a lively concert by the band Firoze Jong.
