The Department of Printing and Publication Studies is one of the few latest academic programs of the University of Dhaka. As we are living in the age of amazing technological development of printing and publication, the publishing industries need expertise in this field. The situation demands higher education and specialization in this field in the country.
Accordingly, in order to create opportunities for our new generations, to gain up-to-date knowledge and skills in printing and publication sector and to acquire confidence and abilities in building their shining career in publishing and other related fields, the university authority decided to set up the department. The department has got the endorsement of University Grants Commission (UGC) on May 12, 2015. The department launched its academic program from January 2017 with the commencement of an 18-month professional master’s program spanning for three semesters. The department has also commenced its honors program from 2017-2018 sessions, and the programs for five honors batches are now going on. The department has started its regular master’s program from 2021-22 sessions with the first graduate batch from the department.
The department mostly focuses on to generate command for the students on technical knowledge and know-how in the field of printing and publication, keeping in mind the widely, stretched big printing and publishing industry of the world, especially Bangladesh. The immediate goal of the department is to provide at least 20% academically educated workforce for the printing and publishing industry of Bangladesh by 2025 and to provide 100% workforce within next 50 years to make the industries compatible with leading industries of the world. The ultimate goal of the department is to secure and sustain a top position at the order of the ladder of high-ranking and well-acclaimed disciplines of printing and publication in a shortest possible time to establish it really a centre of excellence in the sub-continent, and to make it a true institution for academic pursuit and research in printing and publication sector.
